Every year, Tabor students have opportunities to experience the taste of various foods from different countries. This year Asian Dinner 2008 was on Feb 7th Thursday and it was successful. International students from Korea, Japan, China, Thailand and Middle East prepared and cooked their traditional foods for whole school. Also, entire dining room staff and faculty members helped and supported Asian dinner. Although dining room is quite small for whole community, it was exciting to see people who were enjoying Asian foods. At the Asian dinner, many international students dressed up with their traditional costumes and show their own cultures. Asian Dinner provided opportunities international students to represent their own countries and exchange cultures.
Students from each countries spent about eight hours to cook dishes. The day before the Asian Dinner, many of International students gathered at dinning room after school and marinated meat and chopped all the vegetables. For example, Korean table needs a lot of chopped vegetables such as onions and carrots. Many Korean kids cried while they chopped more than 30 onions. Also, they marinated meats with Korean sauce for Bulgogi. On Feb 7th, right after lunch international students goest to either kitchen or faculty’s kitchen to cook. About 4:30, every countries brought what they cooked to dining hall. Not only American students, but also meet any of international students were excited to eat their own foods.
Food, exchanging cultures, and excitement from Asian dinner made Tabor Community as the unique place and it provides students chances to learn and respect various cultures. I hope the memories of Asian Dinner will remain with every one long after.

This blog gives a good account of what occurs at Asian Dinner and a little bit about what the intention is as far as exposing people to some cultural enrichment. I would really like to see a more personal account of your experience with Asian dinner. Has your perspective changed at all since you have been doing this? Do you feel like Asian Dinner accomplishes its goals? I like the bit about the crying Koreans and I would like more such personal connection. How is the whole event viewed by the Asian community here at Tabor.
I agree. The Asian dinner was very successful. You’re right, so many people helped out with this and they should all be appreciated. The Asian dinner is a very popular event at Tabor and the food is great. It is a very cool tradition and it gets better and better every year.
I have only been at Tabor for two years and i can say that Asian Dinner really is delicious and fun. There is one problem with it though, there is not enough room for everyone to eat. Maybe in the future it could be held in the gym or another location of size.
I’m glad Asian dinner was a success, I glad it could live up to all it’s hype! I liked how you not only included the aspect of eating the Asian food, but also the community coming together and trying different things and getting to know new people. However, when reading thing, I would like to know more about some specific foods and dishes that was prepared for the dinner. Were there any struggles or set backs in making some meals because we were in America?
I really enjoyed Asian dinner this year… The food was great! I think that the Asian dinner is a great tradition. Was it hard to make it all happened?
The Asian Dinner was great this year. Food was delicious. The only problem was that there was too many people in such a small hall.
Was it hard to make all those meals?
